SEAI - "Home Energy Upgrade" was a fun spot we did as a mockudocumentary showcasing the impact of SEAI's Home Energy Upgrades on Irish homes.
"The Office" style cinema verite immerses us in a world of talking ornaments that tell us their tale pre and post upgrade. Creating these characters was a blast, taking great care to reference the small details that make them feel tangible such as the hastily factory painted surface and slightly shoddy molding on the main character and the hand painted feel and one piece molded vibe of the porcelain characters. It was important these feel as photoreal as possible. I really enjoyed the modelling and texture process on these little guys and watching the animators bring them to life was great fun. Utilizing the new Lidar Scan abilities of the most recent Iphone coupled with some carefully taken and arranged HDRI replica of the set we were able to closely match the lighting environment from the shoot and get these little guys sitting in nicely in the shot.
Take a look below for some little turntables of the character WIP's from the production process just before the final tweaks were made.
