[So eh...]
"Balut! Balut... Pinoy!"
Inspired by the Filipino street food "Balut", this piece celebrates an old favorite street food of the Philippines and South East Asian countries.
A fist pumping chicken fetus throwing shapes to Hardstyle beats while being rhythmically spanked by a tongue... isn't something that immediately springs to mind when thinking of "Balut". However with a world looking increasingly like it's losing its collective mind, I think we can agree everyone needs to blow off a little steam now and then, even this little guy.
In fact, especially this little guy.

On this one, I can't explain with a straight face as to why you are looking at a fist pumping Hardstyle chicken fetus yet there it is. Starting out the process in Maya for rough shapes and blocking it was then wheeled over to my iPad using for sculpting with "Nomad" in the comfort of my couch. After having sculpted the models and taken it in for lookdev in Blender, I felt this guy really wanted to throw some shapes.
The models were extremely dense and not animation friendly at all but he needed some movement. Learning some very basic rigging in blender and solving some issues with dense meshes was in order while I laid down some "sick beatz" in Ableton live to get this lad moving.
Originally it was just going to be a still image but after a sprinkle of tinnitus inducing beats and a dash of janky animated hi-res meshes we have this to worry about.

Sound and visuals were both crafted in tandem and are completely bespoke to this piece. This one begs to be cranked for as long as your speakers and sanity will tolerate.
[Balut!] also runs at two frame rates simultaneously, 60fps for our little hero and 12fps for the text for a little extra insanity.
No animals were harmed during the hatching of this project.
